Based in Nairobi, Wilmot is a seasoned emerging market investor, entrepreneur, strategy consultant, diaspora engagement with Africa innovator and political economist. Wilmot has invested or managed capital totaling over $4.5 billion across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the U.S. He has experience across over 40 countries in Africa.
Wilmot is a Managing Partner with RH Managers Africa Fund based in Johannesburg, a private equity fund investing in hospitals and healthtech in Africa. Prior, Wilmot worked with the International Finance Corporation, executing investments totaling over $300 million and managing a portfolio of $2.5 billion with the private equity, financial institutions, housing and infrastructure groups. Wilmot has also executed over $2 billion in combined transactions as a venture capital investor (CEF), a technology M&A investment banker (JP Morgan) and as a private placement and IPO investment banker (Merrill Lynch).
Wilmot is a business builder in emerging markets as the Founder of VentureLift Africa (VLA), a venture studio with an advisory firm (VLA Capital Advisors) facilitating investment, trade, tech transfer, market entry and expansion for SMEs and corporates. VLA curates leading Diaspora companies into Africa and supports the market expansion of great African brands into global markets with significant Diaspora populations. VLA established the Diaspora Angel Investor Network (DAIN) to catalyze more investment into African women-owned, and Diaspora SMEs on the continent and in the U.S.
Wilmot has a PhD in comparative political economy (Georgetown), an MBA (Wharton), MPA (Harvard University) and BA (Yale University). He is co-author of the forthcoming Sovereign Wealth Funds and the New State Capitalism in Africa (Palgrave MacMillan).
